The Seventh China-Japan Joint Seminar on Numerical Mathematics was held from August 16 to 20, 2004 at the ghangjiajie National Park, Hunan Province, one of the most beautiful places in China. About 24 participants from China, including 3 from Hong Kong and 21 from Japan attended the meeting. Among them were 20 invited speakers, 10 from Japan and 10 from China. .
The proceedings collected over 15 one-hour invited talks and 12 twenty minutes short communications. These papers represent the recent advances in Numerical Mathematics as established by the Chinese and Japanese scientists in the field of numerical solution of differential equations, numerical algebra, approximation, computational geometry, data processing, etc. ..
As the seminar's chairperson of Chinese side, I would like to express my sincere thanks to my colleague, Prof. Hisashi Okamoto, Kyoto University, the chairperson of Japanese side for his warm collaboration and continuous efforts in the whole process of the seminar. Thanks are also due to Prof. Yunqing Huang, Xiangtan University and Prof. Donghui Li, Hunan University for their supportive work as local organizers. The participants were satisfied at the arrangement of the seminar and especially the excursion to the pictorial mountain area of Zhangjiajie National Park. It has been decided that the 8th seminar will take place in Sapporo, Japan in August of 2006.
Finanlly, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the sponsors of the seminar: The Ministry of Science and Technology of China, The Institute of Computational Mathematics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Xiangtan University and Hunan University. My special thanks go to Prof. Zhong-Zhi Bai for his enthusiasm in preparation of the seminar and especially, of this seminar proceedings. ...
